Ravenna Community Choir to present concert on Sunday

The Ravenna Community Choir, as seen in this file photo, will perform its annual spring concert Sunday at Portage Community Chapel.

The Ravenna Community Choir will sing many familiar Christmas songs and carols at its annual Christmas Concert, at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Ravenna Assembly of God, 6401 State Route 14, Ravenna.

Special guests will be the Southeast High School Swing Choir directed by Holly Wickersham, which will perform several pieces and then combine with the community choir for a rendition of Handel’s "Hallelujah Chorus."

Soloists from the choir include Tressie Gardner, Kara Suzelis, April Markov, Debbie Myers, Mandee Scott and Emily Pierson. Jeff Markov will play the trumpet, and Kathy Peters and Ray Taliaferro will narrate "Christmas Day" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

The Ravenna Community Choir is directed by Janis Harcar with accompanist Rick DeMattia.

The church is accessible from state Route 14 or Bryn Mawr Street. There is no admission fee for the concert, although an offering will be accepted. There is free parking at the church.
