Dos Coronas, located on west Main street in Ravenna, plans to build a patio for outdoor dining.

An outdoor patio for a Mexican restaurant in Ravenna was approved by Ravenna's planning commission on Tuesday.

Architect Frank Pavliga, representing Dos Coronas at 809 W. Main St., said the concrete pad will replace a parking area on the west side of the building. The patio will seat 24 and will be able to accommodate up to 49 people, he said. A fire pit and a decorative chimney also is part of the plan, he said.

"The owner has 22 Mexican restaurants," Pavliga said. "Dos Coronas is one of the few that doesn't have an outdoor patio."

The plan also calls for a new delivery drive, and returning part of the parking area behind the restaurant to grass. The work is expected to be complete by May of next year.

Mayor Frank Seman said he believes the patio will be a nice addition to the restaurant..

"During the summer nights, people like to sit outside to eat," he said. "That's something we learned during the pandemic."

Planning Commission member Frank Hairston said he happened to be eating at Dos Coronas recently, and mentioned the upcoming project review to some other people who were dining there.

"Everybody I talked to said it was a good idea," he said.
