Ravenna Rocks concert series kicks off Aug. 12 with pep rally for high school football team

The Ravenna Rocks concert series returns Aug. 12 and will include a pep rally to gear up for the Ravenna-Kent football game the following Thursday.

Ryann Kuchenbecker, executive director of the Ravenna Area Chamber of Commerce, said the concert series wanted to do something special to kick off the upcoming start of the school year in the Ravenna district, which begins Aug. 16, and the Ravenna-Kent rivalry, which Ravenna will host Aug. 17.

The rally will kick off the concert at 4 p.m. Aug. 12. Members of the football team and cheerleaders will be there, and community members are invited to cheer the team on in the week leading up to the game.

Kuchenbecker said the pep rally is to "bring people together" before the rivalry.

"Hopefully, more people attend the game as well," she said.

On Aug. 17, the chamber and DJ Krooze will tailgate at Vista Veranda, 141 N. Chestnut St., before going across the street to the high school for the big game.

The music lineup has also changed for the Aug. 12 concert. Lady Lyre, a rock band from Akron will perform at 5 p.m. Also starting at 5 p.m. will be a cornhole tournament and a cruise-in that will feature all types of vehicles, Kuchenbecker said.

"It's just for everybody to cruise in and have a good time," she said.

Just after 6 p.m., rock band John Doe will take the stage. The band describes itself as a "high energy rock and roll band."

The Full Flavor of Ravenna will be the event headliner. DJ Krooze and the Krew Way Experience also will perform.

At the Chamber booth, tickets will be sold for a guitar raffle, which has been donated in memory of Drew Pahls. Event T-shirts and 50/50 tickets also will be sold to benefit the chamber's scholarship fund.

The Oct. 7 "Rocktoberfest" will feature Tyrone's Blues Sinsation as the headliner, plus Back Alley Relics and On The Rocks.

Vendors are still being accepted for the Aug. 12 and Oct. 7 concerts. Details can be found on the Chamber of Commerce website.
