Ravens defensive line coach and run game coordinator Anthony Weaver is expected to interview for the Denver Broncos’ defensive coordinator vacancy, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

The Broncos, who on Thursday hired former Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett as head coach, have put in a request to interview Weaver. The 41-year-old previously served alongside Hackett on the 2013 Buffalo Bills’ coaching staff.

According to an NFL Network report Thursday, the leading candidate for the job in Denver is Los Angeles Rams secondary coach and pass game coordinator Ejiro Evero.

Weaver joined Ravens coach John Harbaugh’s staff last January after one season as the Houston Texans’ defensive coordinator. The Ravens’ run defense, which finished 12th in the NFL in efficiency in 2020, was No. 4 this season, according to Football Outsiders.

Weaver was also among the in-house favorites to replace defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale, a position the Ravens filled Thursday with Michigan defensive coordinator and former Ravens assistant Mike Macdonald.

Weaver, a second-round pick of the Ravens in 2002, played four seasons in Baltimore before finishing his career in 2008 with the Texans. He’s coached in the NFL for 10 seasons.
