Ravens WR Devin Duvernay shares thoughts on WR Rashod Bateman
During the 2022 NFL draft, the Baltimore Ravens traded away wide receiver Marquise Brown, which many saw as a surprise. The team also lost veteran wide receiver Sammy Watkins in free agency and cut wide receiver Miles Boykin, leaving plenty of snaps and targets up for grabs at the position.
What Baltimore has left at the wide receiver position are talented young players such as Rashod Bateman, James Proche II, Devin Duvernay, Tylan Wallace and others. Following a training camp practice, Duvernay spoke to the media. When asked if he has seen a difference in Bateman since he’s expected to have a big role, Duvernay said Bateman is one that leads by example.
“I’ll definitely say he’s a lead by example, chime in here and there. But [he] leads by example, does the right thing all the time. [He] knows where to be, he’s in the right spot and he just encourages the young guys to be on their ‘Ps’ and ‘Qs’ when they’re out on the field. This could be taken away from you any day, and you just have to continue to work and play every day like it’s your last.”
With the many departures at the wide receiver position, Bateman is the team’s new No. 1 wideout and expected to have a massive role. The second-year wide receiver will look to add on to what he was able to do during his rookie campaign, where he finished with 46 receptions for 512 yards and a touchdown.
