Ravens WR Rashod Bateman discusses his style of leadership
The Baltimore Ravens will be banking on a big second season from wide receiver Rashod Bateman. The team ended up trading wideout Marquise Brown to the Arizona Cardinals and also saw the departures of Sammy Watkins and Miles Boykin, so the former Minnesota star is the clear and unquestioned No. 1 wide receiver in Baltimore’s offense.
When Bateman was asked about wide receiver coach Tee Martin calling him a leader by example, the second-year pass catcher discussed his leadership style. He talked about how he hopes to show the way he works by being the first one on the field every day, and that it’s a role he’s excited for.
“Yes, because I don’t really talk much. I talk a lot, but hopefully I can show them by the way I work by being the first one here every single day, by working hard at practice, running routes, studying film, whatever it may look like. That’s the role that I’m in. That’s the role that I’ve always wanted to be in, and I’m excited to take that role.”
Bateman showed many different flashes during his rookie season in 2021, finishing the year with 46 catches for 515 yards and one touchdown. He was able to move the chains effectively while showing off his route running, hands and many other aspects of his game.
