🌱 Raw Oysters Tied To Norovirus Case + Lyons Security At Central Park

Happy Tuesday, Huntington Beach; today is National Deep Dish Pizza Day! Let's get this day started. Here's everything happening around town today.

Now is a great time to try the calamari. Also, did you see the new Huntington Central Park ranger? Finally, two suspects were taken off Sunset Beach streets.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny. High: 71 Low: 56.

Here are the top five stories today in Huntington Beach:

  1. Do you love to slurp raw oysters off the half shell? If they came from British Columbia, Canada, you might want to pass. Health officials warned Monday that eating raw or undercooked oysters from BC has been connected to norovirus cases. “The sticky bug causes severe vomiting and diarrhea and can affect anyone of any age.” (Patch)

  2. The city “has contracted with Lyons Security to provide a dedicated Huntington Central Park ranger in addition to citywide patrol of parks, libraries, and recreation facilities.” High visibility of these patrols is thought to “deter illegal activity and nuisances, and will assist as witnesses to incidents.” The patrols started on Monday. (Surf City Break)

  3. Plain-clothed officers witnessed a bicycle theft in Sunset Beach. “While in pursuit of the suspected bike thief, officers located (another) suspect who was arrested for outstanding warrants.” Both were arrested. (HB News)

  4. Last month, the City Council “renewed the Auto Incentive Beach Parking Program for an additional five years.” It provides a free annual beach parking pass, which has a value of $150, “to any person who buys or leases a new vehicle or a used one valued at over $20,000 at a local auto dealer in Huntington Beach.” (Surf City Break)

  5. The Huntington Beach City School District has released its COVID-19 numbers on Monday. There are zero confirmed cases among staff members and students. (HBCSD)
