Rays at Mariners: Shane McClanahan on the mound

The Rays are looking to snap a season-high, five-game losing streak and put a good finish on a bad road trip when they take on the Mariners this afternoon in Seattle, first pitch at 4:10.

Rookie lefty Shane McClanahan will be on the mound, looking to pitch better and deeper into games, having gone winless in his last three starts. He hasn’t looked good, either, going 0-2 with a 7.15 ERA, allowing 17 hits (a .333 average) and four homers over 11.1 innings, while walking six and striking out 14.

“Mac set the bar pretty high for himself coming in with his first three or four outings when he was called up. And to just get back to whatever he’s doing, that type of pitch efficiency and that mindset, and he’s fully capable of it,’' manager Kevin Cash said.

“His stuff has been the same every outing, but want to see him maybe not manage the workload so much, and just come in and let it rip. And he’s he’s very capable of doing that. Fully expect that whatever adjustment he felt that he needed to make, he’s going to try to put that in place today.’'

The Mariners are starting veteran lefty Marco Gonzales, who has somewhat neutral splits.

The Rays head home after the game and open a three-game series Tuesday with the AL East-leading Red Sox.
