RC Fish & Game Youth Pheasant Hunt is Saturday

More than 60 youths are already signed up to participate Saturday in the Richland County Fish & Game Protective Association's annual Youth Pheasant Hunt, but organizers say there is still room for more boys and girls to come out to learn about hunting and enjoy the outdoors.

The club's president Paul Bond said any boy or girl ages 8 to 17 can still participate in the event at 1360 Poth Road. The event, held 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., is free and all that is required is a valid Ohio hunter's license and youths must bring their own gun, Bond said. Shells, wild pheasants and safety tour guides will be provided.

Bond said the annual event is one of the biggest hunting events around and club member Mike Hoffman has put a lot of hard work into this year's youth event.

The club, founded 80 years ago, offers numerous youth events including hunter safety courses throughout the year.

Numerous businesses have donated money, prizes and gun shells for the hunt, including USOC Adventures TV, Ronk's Towing, Anthony Lee, Sportman's Den, Blott's Electricity and others, Bond said.

Lunch will be provided free of charge.

Bond said the youths will get to see hunting dogs in action.

Anyone interested in attending is asked to call 419-631-4617, or youth can just show up Saturday morning too.

Bond, who has been a member of the club for eight years, said youth are also asked to wear boots and orange vests.

"It's all about getting our youth involved in the outdoors and teaching them safe hunting procedures," he said.
