RCC to hold orientation for nursing assistant program

Dec. 6—To help interested people learn more about Rogue Community College's nursing assistant program, a free, no-obligation orientation is offered 5-6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8 and Tuesday, Dec. 13.

Financial assistance for course costs is available through WorkSource Rogue Valley, and information about eligibility will be shared.

The program will be offered at RCC's Grants Pass campus beginning Jan. 17. The program consists of 155 hours of online and in-person training, according to a RCC news release.

The orientation will take place in Building I (Illinois), Room 2 at the Redwood Campus, 3345 Redwood Highway, Grants Pass. Attendance at the orientation is required prior to the first day of class. Staff will be available to help with program applications and WorkSource scholarship information.

In six weeks, students who complete the training program will be eligible to take the certification exam through the Oregon State Board of Nursing. More than 90% of RCC's nursing assistant graduates have passed the state board exam to become certified nursing assistants (CNA1), and most have received job offers prior to graduation, the release said.

During the first three weeks, students complete 53 hours of online learning and 27 hours of skills labs. During the final three weeks, students take part in 75 hours of hands-on, supervised clinical training at a local health care facility.

The program is offered through RCC's Continuing Education department and does not earn college credit. The program will be offered at the Table Rock Campus of RCC during spring term.
