RCISD campus will be part of 2023-2024 Exhibit of School Architecture

Sep. 19—The new Ruth Cherry Elementary School in Royse City ISD was recently announced as part of a 2023-2024 Exhibit of School Architecture, according to the Texas Association of School Administrators and the Texas Association of School Boards.

Ground was broken on the new Cherry Elementary in Veranda Estates in November 2021 and the campus officially opened the following August for the 2022-2023 academic year. VLK Architects was the designer.

"We are very proud to share this news with the community," said Adi Bryant, the district's chief communications officer. "This is a very difficult honor to earn and we are so happy for their teachers, staff, students and families."

Davis Elementary is the longest standing of six elementary campuses in the district. Officials describe it as "a culturally, economically and academically diverse campus where student leadership, personal growth and high expectations are core beliefs."

RCISD voters approved a $230 million bond referendum in May 2021, which included a replacement for the elementary school. The district's Glenda Arnold Early Childhood Learning Center took the place of be the old Cherry Elementary after renovations.

TASA and TASB have announced that 46 projects will be included in the exhibit, which will consist of new and renovated Texas school facilities includes projects from 38 school districts and three colleges submitted by 15 architectural firms.

Eligible projects are newly constructed or renovated public education facilities completed in the past five years and not previously submitted.

TASA is the professional association for Texas school superintendents and other administrators. TASB is an association established in 1949 to serve local public school boards.
