The Cincinnati Bearcats led the Houston Cougars by just one point at halftime in the American Athletic Conference title game Saturday at Nippert Stadium.

The third quarter was a different story.

UC scored on its opening drive of the second half on a Desmond Ridder 8-yard pass to Leonard Taylor. The Bearcats got the ball back less than a minute later at the Houston 23 on Joel Dublanko's interception. They scored another touchdown two plays later on Ridder's 21-yard pass to Alec Pierce. And they tacked on another TD after a Houston 3-and-out on Jerome Ford's 42-yard run - his second long TD run of the game.

"That's what we're capable of," Bearcats head coach Luke Fickell said after the 35-20 win of the third-quarter outburst.

"We had to come out (of halftime) with a fast start obviously. We did. We were just able to put it on them - our O-linemen did a phenomenal job. And they just kept pounding away, pounding away, pounding away," Ridder said after the game.

Social media reactions to the three touchdowns UC scored in the first half of the third quarter to distance itself from Houston:

Ford, who transferred to UC from Alabama, could face his former team on Dec. 31.
