Reactions: Former UC Bearcats football/basketball player Brent Petrus dies at 46
Former Cincinnati Bearcats football and basketball player Brent Petrus is being remembered by former UC teammates and others after he died Sunday at age 46.
Petrus' obituary on legacy.com says the 1997 UC graduate passed away following his battle with epilepsy.
Petrus was at UC on football scholarship, but he also appeared in 31 games for the 1997-98 basketball team coached by Bob Huggins, averaging 2.5 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.
In football, he played four seasons for the Bearcats - three at quarterback and one at tight end. He played Arena Football for the Carolina Rhinos and New York Dragons.
Petrus starred at Elyria Catholic High School, southwest of Cleveland, and was inducted in 2015 into the Elyria Sports Hall of Fame.
Social media tributes to Petrus:
Saddened to see that former UC football/basketball player Brent Petrus passed away. He was a Chuck Machock favorite because they both attended Elyria Catholic HS. Brent has to be the only UC athlete to throw a TD pass, catch a TD pass, and score 10+ points in a Crosstown Shootout https://t.co/qdG6Xr1WyA
