I’ll do my best to recap it, but again, I recommend watching it.
So, there’s this girl, Amy Bockerstette, a young golfer with Down Syndrome. She’s not a good golfer with Down Syndrome, just a good golfer.
Back in January, she met Gary Woodland through the Special Olympics, and the two connected immediately. Woodland invited her to join him for a hole during a practice round and, well, Amy stole the show.
“I’ve got this,” she would say to herself before each shot. And you know what? Every time, she did have it. Her drive to a greenside bunker, her chip out from deep in the sand to about 10 feet, and the putt she drained for par.
Fast forward to Sunday at the U.S. Open, where Woodland was clinging to a lead in the biggest tournament of his life. And what did he say to himself, over and over?
“I’ve got this.”
And you know what? He did have it, dethroning Brooks Koepka to win the first major of his career.
“Amy's attitude is phenomenal,” Woodland said in his championship press conference. “Positive energy is contagious. And life's not always going to be bells and whistles. There are going to be bad things in your life, a lot of ups and downs, but the only thing you can control is your attitude. And if you do that, in the end, good things will happen.”
Then, right there, he pulled out his phone and called her.
“I used your positive energy,” Woodland told her.
“You were awesome!”
“Thank you!” Amy replied.
“Thank you,” Woodland said.
Yeah, just go watch it.
