We have our own citizens to provide for first

Bronx: Re “Nearly 2,000 migrants at Floyd Bennett evacuated” (Jan. 10): I am not a Mayor Adams fan, but I feel I need to defend him in this situation.

My son and I were homeless for a good portion of 2022 until we found a domestic violence shelter in March. It is not an easy process to find shelter. Regardless, unless you are lucky enough to be selected for Title V housing, you have only 60 days at the shelter. If you do not find housing within that time, i.e. waiting for Section 8 to go through, you have to leave, return to the intake center and wait there for hours until they find another shelter.

There are hundreds of women and children running away from violence and families who need help. Many of us were out in the streets until we found shelter. That these people who are crossing our border were placed in four- and five-star hotels is outrageous and infuriating! We owe them nothing. Two of my very best friends immigrated here from other countries and they did everything in their power to follow our immigration laws and became naturalized American citizens. Both are now attorneys and one of them will be appointed soon as an assistant attorney general in New Jersey.

Many of these people are not interested in acclimating into American culture. We are spending billions to take care of them? Would it be cheaper to send them all back to their respective countries where they did have a home and their children were attending school? They are not all fleeing violence. Stop that noise! Bernice Cintron

Limited resources

Staten Island: Voicer Michael Barnhart replied to my sensible suggestion that we send economic migrants home with the standard lefty word salad of Trump Derangement Syndrome gibberish and baseless accusations of “hate.” My question for Mike, and everyone else: What is your solution? Just admit everyone in the world who wants to be here? Who is going to pay for this? In case you haven’t noticed, there isn’t enough housing for American taxpayers. We need to put up these line-breakers on our dime, ahead of citizens and legal residents who can’t afford a place? If these illiterate, unskilled migrants stay here, they’re going to undercut the wages of our most vulnerable, disadvantaged citizens. Why does Barnhart hate poor people? John Colella

Downright right-leaning

Brooklyn: Did your letters on Saturday come from the New York Post’s mailbag or are you just trying to rile up your readers? Ilsa Ruthen

Ended on a good note

Bayside: To Voicer Mary Doherty: Hi Mary! I’m glad we can laugh at this Barbie doll thing. I’m laughing! I hope you are! Keep it going. Happy New Year! Theresa Polese

Core content

Hartsdale, N.Y.: Once again, on Dec. 31, the Sunday Daily News had the comics section insert missing. I checked stores on Central Park Ave. in Yonkers — a candy store, CVS, ShopRite and a gas station. All had the insert missing. This has happened before. One time, when the stores around me had the insert missing, I was traveling cross-county and the Stop & Shop supermarket had the insert. I don’t know who is responsible for the Sunday insert delivery in my area but this happened a few times in 2023, especially when there was a holiday. Now I’m not buying the paper when the comics are missing. Paying more on Sunday for an incomplete paper is not for me. Tony Garcia

Like father, like son

Brooklyn: Hunter Biden shows up at Congress but refuses to answer a question. His father barely shows up anywhere, but when he does, he usually won’t answer many, if any, questions. As they say, the crackhead doesn’t fall far from the tree. J.C. Wade

Allowable assault

Kew Gardens: An epitome of white privilege is exemplified by the security precautions for the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection as compared to those in place for the 1963 March on Washington. On Jan. 6, the Capitol Police were overwhelmed by a mob of thousands while calling for backup, which did not come until too late. Yet, the former president, with full power as commander-in-chief, sat in his dining room for three hours watching the disturbing events unfold on TV and did absolutely nothing. In effect, security was totally inadequate. For the 1963 march, there were innumerable police, National Guard and even active military on standby to respond immediately to any disturbance or riot. Fortunately, that force was not needed at the peaceful event. However, the government was prepared. Imagine the retaliatory response if those people in 1963 acted similarly to those who invaded our Capitol in 2021. Glenn Hayes

Contradictory evidence

Chester, N.J.: Let me get this straight. The MAGA crowd would have us believe that the Jan. 6 insurrectionists were driven by the FBI and Antifa (with not a single person associated with either group identified as taking part). But Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has indicated that he intends to blur the faces of those in the Jan. 6 videos he is releasing to protect participants from the Justice Department. Wouldn’t the unblurred video be helpful in proving the MAGA case? Of course it would. Thanks, Mike Johnson, for protecting insurrectionists and supporting lies. David J. Melvin

Inexplicable support

Howard Beach: I am not a religious person, however, I do believe in Jesus Christ. But if there ever was such a thing as the Antichrist, Donald Trump would be a perfect example. The fact that this man is mentally challenged and extremely dangerous is scary enough, but what scares me more are the millions of decent and honorable people who will stop at nothing to protect and defend this madman. I must be missing something here. One thing is sure, however: History will not be kind to this generation. August Vicari

Perspective

Waco, Texas: Reviewing your newspaper’s website, I noticed that most of the political articles regard Trump in one fashion or another, be they supportive, accusatory or unbiased. There are a handful of political articles published in general every day. I am curious as to how focusing on politics has influenced or divided your writers and journalists. I am also curious as to why they like to focus on Trump the most. Other articles do not seem to target other political figures, as they focus more on political events, if not an issue involving Trump. There are plenty of other figures to focus on who would gain readers’ attention. I’m also curious as to how the democratic atmosphere of New York affects the direction your writers and journalists tend to take when generating political articles. Gabriella Dion

Speak no evil

Brooklyn: To Voicer Peter O’Connor: You have to love and have a holy fear of God. I totally disapprove of your sarcasm. I have one to tell you: A priest said in his sermon that Patty O’Shea went to Mass. He didn’t miss a Sunday. Patty O’Shea went to hell for what he did on Monday. Wanda Lucci

Commie infiltrator?

Edgewater, N.J.: While your obituary of Melania Trump’s mother informed us that her parents fled Communist Slovenia for America, another local newspaper reported that her father, who survives her mother, belonged to the Communist Party, and that this Communist freely cavorted about the White House during the last administration, implying that this could resume a year from now. Might some pesky patriot raise a ruckus about such access? Jay K. Egelberg

Almost had it

Charlotte, N.C.: To Voicer James D’Amico: I was so intrigued by your letter blaming water vapor for climate change that I immediately stopped reading the paper to research this further. It turned out — by an unimpeachable source, MIT — that you had half the story and that half was greatly distorted, probably by fossil fuel advocates. The key sentence: “And of course, temperatures today are rising, thanks to humans’ emissions of longer-lasting greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide. Water vapor amplifies that effect. Water vapor is just one of the features of our climate that carbon dioxide emissions are pushing out of balance.” There were 3-6 inches of rain in New York last week. That’s all that pesky water vapor the carbon dioxide emissions are adding to the atmosphere. Barbara Haynes
