Who is policing TLC driver parking violations?

Elmhurst: Where is the Taxi and Limousine Commission enforcement division? Are they asleep in their cars? Do they even exist? Or is this another no-show job?

A TLC plate is a commercial plate and is not supposed to be parked overnight on a city street. This is also an NYPD issue. If a vehicle with TLC plates is found parked on a city street, it should be towed at the owner’s expense. These vehicles are parked on sidewalks, in crosswalks, blocking disability access, on private property, off the corner and sticking out into the middle of the street. They are taking parking spots away from people who ought to have them.

Where is everybody who is supposed to be protecting the rights of citizens? Our senators are embezzling money and gold from other countries. Our president mumbles and can’t walk a straight line, our press secretary is incoherent, we have an idiot vice president who thinks that space connects us all and a mayor who can’t control the rat problem in his own home but assures us he will rid NYC of the rat infestation. Are these politicians serving the public? It seems as though we are being served lip service.

Tell the TLC and NYPD to serve notice on TLC drivers that action will be taken in the interest of the quality of life of the public they serve, and whose taxes pay their salaries. James League

Patrol bot

Manhattan: I’m optimistic for the NYPD’s experimental safety enhancement project with 400-pound K5 robots, which resemble R2-D2 from “Star Wars,” to patrol the busiest subway station. I want the plan to work and I support anything else they have in the works. But why didn’t the department merely hire security people or post police officers? A lot of people out there need jobs. I suspect they considered that. My next (cynical) thought was: I wonder how long it will take for some mentally ill subway rider to come on the mezzanine level with an ax and beat the robot to a pulp. I pray it never happens. James A. Fragale

No respect

Manhattan: A memorial was recently held for Bill Geddie, the co-creator and longtime producer of “The View.” Of the 24 hosts of the show over the years, only Sunny Hostin had the decency to show up. I was appalled when I read about this. Kudos to Sunny. At least she displayed some class despite the fact that none of her coworkers, past or present, bothered to attend. It’s an absolute disgrace. Barbara Powers

Above the fray

Forest Hills: There’s a government shutdown on Oct. 1 if an agreement is not reached. All non-essential workers will be furloughed without pay. Essential workers must report for duty but will not get paid. Who’s missing from this equation? President Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, 100 senators and 435 representatives. The very people who are causing the shutdown and the suffering caused by it will not suffer at all! To paraphrase Arte Johnson of “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In”: Very interesting, but totally unfeeling and unfair. Mel Moskowitz

Lower bar

Stamford, Conn.: Watching Sen. Bob Menendez’s attempt to explain the $500,000 in cash found in his home was cringeworthy. He emphasized the presumption of innocence and he predicted that he would be exonerated at trial. Virtually all high-profile politicians who find themselves indicted give the same speech. They are presumed innocent unless found guilty at trial beyond a reasonable doubt. But the presumption of innocence exists only in the courtroom. It is a strict standard because it involves the risk of the defendant losing his liberty. That doesn’t mean that we must suspend common sense outside of the courtroom. Even if it is highly probable that Menendez is guilty, that’s not enough to convict beyond a reasonable doubt, but it should be good enough to send him packing. He should either resign immediately or be forced out of the Senate through the expulsion mechanism. He can no longer serve effectively. Peter Janoff

Serious charges

Merced, Calif.: Whatever Bob Menendez did is not silly — it’s corruption in government rearing its ugly head. This is not like Hunter Biden’s case, which is a weak one for the U.S. government. It is a lot like Donald Trump’s case, which the government has shown to be a strong one. But the real problem of Menendez is Menendez himself. John Huerta

Tinderbox conditions

Staten Island: Donald Trump is stoking violence toward prosecutors, the press and judges and suggests that Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley’s conduct was worthy of execution. None of us knows what will happen once the televised trials begin. I would think that anyone serving on these juries should not only be sequestered but should remain anonymous — no names, no residences, just a number. It has been done before. Their lives could be in danger. The judges and prosecutors should have round-the-clock security, as well as their families. These are not normal times. Michele Corelli

Far-reaching rhetoric

Redondo Beach, Calif.: Trump’s statement about Gen. Mark Milley and execution could mean that Milley needs a security detail after retirement. John Chevedden

By what measure?

Brookfield, Conn.: To Voicer Kevin Hanley: Since you want to talk about “mass stupidity,” let’s have a comparison. Under Trump, the economy was healthy and a gallon of gas was about $2.60. Under President Biden, the economy is worse, gas is about $3.80 per gallon and inflation is the highest in 40 years. Trump was trying to control the border; under Biden, we’re being overrun by illegal migration. And under Trump, 13 U.S. service members in Afghanistan were still alive. Fred Schoeneborn

Barriers to entry

Congers, N.Y.: To Voicer Phil Serpico: You do realize that President Biden’s border policy is nearly identical to Trump’s, right? And Trump had four years to do something and did nothing, just like with his beautiful new health care plan. I guess he was waiting for Mexico to send that check. Beth Friscino

Misconstrued Scripture

Copiague, L.I.: How odd that Voicer Kathy Renken objects to others picking and choosing among Biblical passages — and also uses just 10 verses from Deuteronomy to declare “what will happen to us if we allow foreigners to invade our land.” Other passages explicitly command the Israelites to “love” the foreigner, and to treat them “like the native-born.” The admonition in Deuteronomy 28:43-53 is directed to the people of Israel as they are about to enter Canaan (the generally accepted date for that is 3,000 years ago) and warns of the consequences (notably, crop failures) if Israel would “depart from Holiness” — not what the foreigners will do because the Hebrews “let them in.” Mitch Kessler

Poor representation

Bay Shore, L.I.: I am not 100% sure what I feel an appropriate dress code for Congress is. That said, Sen. John Fetterman dressing like a slob is not at all acceptable. Maybe he feels that represents the people who voted for him. Larry Festa

Lost in the mail

Briarwood: Within the last year, I deposited three letters with checks to pay Con Ed, T-Mobile, and Macy’s bills. None received payment. But my checking account number and routing number were stolen. Recently, at least three attempts were made to debit $500-plus from my account to a phony cell phone carrier. I had to block the vendor and restrict all debit access, plus change direct deposits to another account, an absolute inconvenience. Fortunately, I had only chump change in my account. I no longer use debit cards, credit cards or checks. Cash only. I only do priority mail for important documents via USPS. Avoid mailboxes like the COVID-19 virus. To USPS: Better secure your industry (I reported this incident to USPS at the time, yet they never contacted me with any results of any investigation). Joseph Manago

Assassination pass

Brooklyn: When the little fat man from North Korea got off his train and met Vladimir Putin, it would have been a perfect time for a direct missile hit. We would have ended the war in Ukraine and opened up the concentration camps in North Korea, uniting that country into one Korea with the south. What a missed opportunity by Biden! Mary Zanfini
