Reading-Berks Association of Realtors to hold 5K Run for Shelter

Sep. 11—The Reading-Berks Association of Realtors (R-BAR) is working with Habitat for Humanity of Berks County and Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Berks Inc. for its third annual 5K Run for Shelter on Oct. 8 at Gring's Mill Recreation Area in Spring Township.

The run is intended to help increase neighborhood revitalization, create additional housing opportunities and restore hope for deserving families in Berks County.

Proceeds from this race benefit Habitat for Humanity of Berks County and Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Berks Inc. to help increase the capacity to educate, build and provide safe homes for those in need in our community.

This professionally timed event takes you along the Tulpehocken Creek for a scenic up and back course. This flat and fast course is a mixture of packed cinder and pavement.

Awards will go to the top three male and female 5K finishers, as well as the top three male and female finishers in the following age group categories: 14 & under, 15 — 18, 19 — 29, 30 — 39, 40 — 49, 50 — 59, 60 — 69, 70+.

This event is open to all ages and capabilities. Running the course is not required, and many enjoy walking the course with nature all around.

Registration begins at 8 a.m., race begins at 9, awards begin at 10. Entry fee is $25, which includes a T-shirt (while supplies last), post-run reusable goodie bag, refreshments, a DJ and free parking. Entrants can register online at www.realestateinberks.com/5K.

Everyone is encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to support R-BAR's October food drive benefiting Helping Harvest.

The 5K Run for Shelter will be held rain or shine, and fees are non-refundable.
