May 8—Conrad Weiser freshman Armaan Malik qualified for the PIAA Tournament by finishing third in the District 3 Class 2A boys singles tournament Saturday at Hershey Racquet Club.

The third-seeded Malik defeated unseeded Akilan Murugesan of Donegal 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 in a third-place match that lasted three hours, 17 minutes to make states.

"It was an epic match," Conrad Weiser coach Ryan Knarr said.

Mailk is the first Conrad Weiser boys player to qualify for states since Tommy Meyer in 2007.

Earlier Saturday, Malik fell 6-0, 6-0 to top-seeded Nile Abadir of Lancaster Country Day in the semifinals.
