May 23—A listing of events and celebrations in observance of Memorial Day:

Oley

Members of the Oley American Legion Post #878 will place flags on veterans' graves at the Oley Spangsville Cemetery on Covered Bridge Road in Oley.

Ceremonies featuring a 21-gun salute will be held at seven Oley Valley cemeteries starting at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. Note that there is no service or speech, just the 21-gun salute. Approximate times of the ceremonies will be held at God's Tabernacle on Main Street in Oley at 8:35 to 8:40 a.m., St. Paul's of Lobachsville at 9 to 9:15 a.m., Pleasantville Cemetery at 9:35 a.m., Spangsville Church Cemetery at 10 a.m., Hetrick Farm cemetery in Oley Line at 10:30 a.m. and Spies Church Cemetery 10:45 to 10:50 a.m.

The Memorial Day parade will be held on Sunday at 6 p.m. starting at Oley Valley High School and ending at Freiden's Cemetery on Main Street in Oley. Following the parade there will be a service in the cemetery including a 21-gun salute to the veterans. An address will be given by state Rep. David Maloney.

In case of rain, the service will be held in the Oley Valley High School auditorium.

Muhlenberg Township

The Muhlenberg Township Parks and Recreation Department is planning a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday at 9 a.m. near the flagpole in Jim Dietrich Park.

speakers will be Tommy Dunston, a Vietnam veteran, and state Rep. Mark Rozzi. The posting of the colors will be done by Muhlenberg Boy Scout Troops 161 and 155.

Music will be provided by a choir from Muhlenberg High School. Wreaths will be laid in honor of Gold Star families, fallen police officers, fallen firefighters and all military branches. Light refreshments will be served afterward at the park's pavilion. Bring your own chairs. For more information, call 610-929-4727.

Mohnton

The 62nd annual Mohnton Area Memorial Day Parade will be held on Monday starting at 9 a.m. from the VFW Post 9045 on West Wyomissing Avenue.

The parade will feature the Reading Buccaneers Drum & Bugle Corps, P.O.S of A Mohnton Camp 211, Boy and Girl Scout troops, Mohnton borough representatives, and area police and fire departments.

The parade will proceed from the post to Walnut Street to North Church Street and end at the Mohnsville Cemetery where the memorial service will begin at 10:15 a.m. Larry Graeff will be master of ceremonies. The speaker is National Guard Brig. Gen. Wilbur E. Wolf III. The Rev. Robert W. Shuey of Zion E.C. Church will give the invocation and benediction.

After the service, the Reading Buccaneers will present their program on the Mohnton Playground at noon.

Hamburg

The Hamburg Memorial Day ceremonies, sponsored by the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, begins Monday at 9 a.m.

The parade starts at the war memorial at Second and State streets with a ceremony. There's a second ceremony at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church on North Fifth Street.

The main ceremony is at 10:15 a.m. in the St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, 99 Church St.

In the event of rain, all ceremonies will be held in the Hamburg Fire Company Field House along Pine Street.

Shillington

The American Legion Reber-Moore Post 635 of Shillington presents its 94th annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony on Monday at 10:30 a.m.

The parade is scheduled to start at Shillington Park and will end at Shillington Town Hall.

Fleetwood

The American Legion Horace M. Kiefer Post No. 625, Fleetwood, will be holding a Memorial Day service in the Community Park on Monday.

The parade will start following the 9 a.m. ceremony in the Fleetwood Cemetery, North Laurel and East Main streets. The parade will proceed west on Main Street past the Community Park to St. Paul's Union Cemetery for another brief Legion Honor Guard ceremony. The parade will proceed back to Fleetwood Community Park on West Main Street for the main service, which should begin about 10 a.m., with with Liz Graybill, retired Army Sgt. 1st Class, as the guest speaker. The Rev. Nancy Clark, a Fleetwood native who is affiliated with Unity of Reading, will offer the ceremonial prayers.

If the parade is canceled because of weather, the honor guard ceremonies will still be held at the cemeteries and in the park.

Reading

The 2022 Memorial Day Ceremonies hosted by the Combined Veterans Council of Berks County will be held on Monday. The first ceremony will be held at Veterans Grove in City Park at 9 a.m. The second ceremony will be held at the Civil War Monument in Charles Evans Cemetery, Centre Avenue, about 10:15 a.m. Guest speaker will be Stewart Lerch, Gold Star family member and American WW II Orphans Network member. The Reading Philharmonic Band will provide musical accompaniment to the program at the cemetery.
