Reading Fightin Phils squander six-run lead in loss to Binghamton

Jun. 26—The Reading Fightin Phils were unable to hold a six-run lead they carried into the bottom of the seventh in falling 7-6 to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies Sunday in an Eastern League game at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton, N.Y.

The Fightin Phils closed the first half with a 29-40 record, finishing fifth in the Northeast Division.

Binghamton (28-41) scored three runs in the seventh and four in the eighth.

Wyatt Young had a two-run triple in seventh for the Rumble Ponies. Ronny Mauricio had an RBI single and Carlos Cortes a go-ahead three-run home run in the eighth for Binghamton.

Reading had taken a 6-0 lead with four runs in the second and two in the seventh.

In the second, Jack Conley had an RBI double, Kevin Vicuna an RBI single and Wendell Rijo a two-run single.

In the seventh, Aldrem Corredor had a two-run double.

Vicuna finished 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for the Fightins. Chris Sharpe and Conley each went 2-for-4.

Brian Marconi (3-3) took the loss for Reading. He allowed the home run to Cortes, the first batter he faced.

McKinley Moore allowed three runs on three hits and one walk in one-third of an inning in the seventh for the Fightins. Matt Seelinger allowed three runs on a hit and two walks in the eighth.

Reading opens the second half Tuesday at FirstEnergy Stadium against the Somerset Patriots.
