Reading Hospital will offer mobile mammography appointments
Feb. 27—The Reading Hospital Foundation's mobile mammography bus will be making the rounds throughout the region.
The bus will be making several stops during the next two months, according to a schedule released Monday by Reading Hospital.
Outfitted with the latest technology, including 3D tomosynthesis, the mobile mammography bus uses a digital mammography screening tool that improves the accuracy of imaging, reducing unneeded follow-up visits and enables caregivers to detect more invasive cancers.
Andrew Rettew, chief of the hematology and oncology division at McGlinn Cancer Institute at Reading Hospital, said women often tell the team working in the bus that they knew they needed to schedule a mammogram but put it off because they were caring for their families, working and managing other day to day responsibilities.
"The mobile mammography coach is important because it takes the screening to patients in their own neighborhood, making it easier and more convenient for women in our community to access these essential screenings," he said.
Appointments are available to all women 40 years and older or those considered high risk, and have not had a screening mammogram in the past year.
