Get ready for the boom, hiss, oohs and aahs. Fireworks displays abound in Erie this summer
The Erie area's night skies will be awash with sizzling colors and thunderous sounds as plenty of legal fireworks displays are planned for this summer. There are plans for fireworks celebrations from June through September, with the bulk of the blasts going off the Fourth of July weekend.
Many of the fireworks events are free to attend, but check websites or call for complete details. Here is a list of what we know (in chronological order):
City of Erie
Erie SeaWolves games: June 24, plus eight more Zambelli fireworks nights remaining this summer following SeaWolves Class AA baseball games at UPMC Park, 831 French St. The team will host three consecutive nights of fireworks July 1-3 to celebrate Fourth of July weekend. Games on July 1-2 will begin at 6:35 p.m. Game time on July 3 will be 6:05 p.m. All other fireworks shows will take place on Friday nights: June 24 (6:35 p.m.), July 15 (6:35 p.m.), July 29 (6:35 p.m.), Aug. 19 (6:05 p.m.), Sept. 2 (6:05 p.m.) and Sept. 9 (6:05 p.m.). 814-456-1300. www.milb.com/erie
Lights Over Lake Erie: July 3. Starting at 10 p.m. and lasting for approximately 15 minutes, the annual fireworks display for the city of Erie, in conjunction with Mercyhurst University, returns to Dobbins Landing. The fireworks, launched from the Bicentennial Tower at Dobbins Landing, can be viewed at various points along the bayfront. Pyrotecnico Fireworks of New Castle will put on the 15-minute display. Edinboro: July 3, 6-10 p.m., near Mallory Lake on Edinboro University campus, 219 Meadville St. Boro with the Works community event features a kid zone, music, food trucks and a performance by Concert Band of Northwest Pennsylvania.
