Get ready for cinnamon roll season, Miami. Knaus Berry Farm in Homestead is reopening

This year Halloween brings a treat near and dear to the hearts of all Miami: Knaus Berry Farm is ready to reopen for the 2023 season.

Famous for its cinnamon rolls, the Homestead farm shop traditionally opens on the last Tuesday of October. It has announced via its website and on voicemail that it will reopen on Oct. 31, with its annual caveat: “Lord willing.”

That means not only the desserts all Miami craves but also other baked goods, ice cream, shakes, vegetables, jams and jellies and honey. The U-pick fields at the farm usually open after the first of the year, depending on the weather.

This year, though, the Miami institution opens in the long shadow of a tragedy. On Feb. 17, Knaus Berry Farm co-owners Herbert and Rachel Grafe were attacked in their home and beaten. Rachel Grafe died after two weeks in the hospital, and the couple’s son Travis Grafe, 40, has been charged with second-degree murder in her death.

The farm is scheduled to reopen, though, with all the usual rules. Knaus, which was opened as a roadside stand in 1956 by brothers Ray and Russell Knaus, takes only cash, so Google Pay won’t help you here.

And as always, expect a line, especially on Saturday (Knaus is closed on Sundays). People have been known to wait up to two hours to get their cinnamon roll fix. You can also have the rolls shipped to other parts of the country via Goldbelly, usually after the first of the year.
