Get ready for construction at the entrance to this popular kids attraction in Sacramento

The entrance to Sacramento’s Fairytale Town is getting a $2.5 million face-lift, and leaders of the 64-year-old amusement park celebrated the remodel with the community at a Saturday ceremony.

Guests will be greeted with a welcome center, park leaders said, where they will find additional bathrooms, a gift shop and a clock tower. They are also hoping that the facility will make entry more efficient, shortening the lines guests find when trying to enter.

Fairytale Town opened a Story Center last year where there are permanent play areas, a reading nook, a small stage and space for writing and coloring.

The attraction, in Sacramento’s Land Park neighborhood, gives children ages 12 and younger a chance to romp on giant animals, sit in Cinderella’s coach, ride the horses “harnessed” to it, or slide down the shoe where an old woman is rumored to have lived.

More than 250,000 people visit the park in a typical year, making it a top five Sacramento destination, park officials said. The park is run by a nonprofit that focuses on fostering the imagination, creativity and education of children.

State Sen. Angelique Ashby, State Assemblyman Kevin McCarty and Sacramento Vice Mayor Eric Guerra were among those who were to join key project donors and FairyTale Town Executive Director Kevin Smith-Fagan at Saturday’s festivities. The welcome center is expected to open in April 2024 at 3901 Land Park Drive.

The entry fee for guests ages 2 and up is $7 on weekdays and $8 on weekends and holidays. It’s free for those 1 and under.
