Ready to fall back into November fun, Boise? Hockey is here, and the holidays are near

The months feel like a blur. And October was no exception, considering November is already here.

Soon many of us will be gathered around a table surrounded by family, ready to stuff our faces into a glorious Thanksgiving food coma.

As we count the days until the turkey holiday, there are a few events that can be shared with friends and loved ones in the meantime.

Chocolate anyone? The annual Craft and Chocolate Affaire at the Nampa Civic Center is your place on Nov. 3-4. In addition to more than 90 artisans selling their custom, handcrafted items, an overwhelming amount of delicacies will be available to satisfy even the pickiest of sweet tooths. Take home gourmet fudge, macaroons, truffles, Brazilian chocolate, chocolate-covered strawberries, chocolate pies and cakes — oh my!

Wanna embrace the Christmas spirit — and start early? Wander through a decorated forest at the Saint Alphonsus Festival of Trees Nov. 22-26 at the Boise Centre and the Canyon County Festival of Trees Nov. 24-25 at Ford Idaho Center. Both festivities feature embellished trees, wreaths and other holiday decor; Santa and entertainment; and special events on other days.

Are you drawn to the lights? There are a couple of places to put you in that sparkly atmosphere you so desire. Drive through Christmas in Color for an immersive experience Nov. 17 through Jan. 2 at Expo Idaho. The attraction will be closed Nov. 23, Dec. 25, and Jan. 1.

And, of course, the Idaho Botanical Garden grounds will be lit starting Thanksgiving day for the annual Winter Garden aGlow (Nov. 23-Dec. 31). Surround yourself with thousands of twinkle lights and displays, while the kids explore and the adults sip holiday drinks at the Snow Globe Bar. Free hot cocoa with cookies and fire pits will help keep the chill at bay.

Ready for ski season? Grab some new-to-you gear at the Ski Swap on Nov. 3-5 at Expo Idaho. Save some serious cash buying used snowboards, skis, boots, bindings and other accessories. Admission is $5 per day or bring a canned food donation for the Boise Rescue Mission on Sunday and get in free. Children 17 and younger get in free.

Ready for sports on ice? The Idaho Steelheads will begin their season trying to make it back to the Kelly Cup Finals. The Steelies ripped through the ECHL regular season, finishing as the top team in the league, before losing in the finals in 2022-23.

November also is the month to honor our nation’s veterans.

Note: Check with event websites or social media before attending. Events might be canceled or postponed after press deadline.
