Ready for football? Here's where area high school teams are scrimmaging this summer

School may have ended, but the summer is still filled with action across the area as football season starts to draw closer. Here's a look at where teams will be scrimmaging this summer.

Indian Creek at Mooresville

When: June 15, 2022, 6 p.m.

Where: Mooresville High School

Freshly dubbed the "Gillin Bowl," new Braves' head coach Casey Gillin will get an early peek at his team's skillset for 2022 as he matches up against Mike Gillin and the Mooresville Pioneers.

Mooresville Pioneers shootout

When: June 18, 2022

Where: Mooresville High School

Mooresville decided to bring back its seven-on-seven tournament from last year, and the lineup for this season's shootout is stacked. Among those competing are Mooresville, Tri-West, Perry Meridian, Heritage Christian, Southport, South Dearborn, Northview, Decatur Central, Riverton Parke, Indian Creek, Gibson Southern, Monrovia, Lutheran, Speedway, Lawrence North, Hamilton Heights, Indianapolis George Washington, Indiana Deaf and Yorktown. It will be set up in two tournaments, big state and small state.

Indian Creek at Martinsville

When: June 22, 2022, 6 p.m.

Where: Martinsville High School

The Artesians and Braves are expected to do battle early in the summer. Martinsville will be getting its first look at its team in action, while Indian Creek likely plays around with its pieces to see what fits best.

Martinsville at Danville

When: June 29, 2022, 6:00 p.m.

Where: Danville High School

Martinsville will be making a trip to Danville to scrimmage the Warriors, a perennially good team at the Class 3A level. This one should be an interesting scrimmage to watch, given the talent on both sides.

Indian Creek at Bedford North Lawrence

When: July 13, 2022, 6 p.m.

Where: Bedford North Lawrence High School

The Braves will make a trip to Bedford to battle it out with the Stars. It will conclude a summers scrimmage schedule of three Class 4A squads.

Martinsville at Beech Grove 4-way

When: July 14, 2022, 6 p.m.

Where: Beech Grove High School

Competing teams: Martinsville, Beech Grove, Southport, Muncie Central

Beech Grove's four-way scrimmage is certaintly an interesting one. All four teams have talent, but all besides the Artesians took a step back in 2021. Regardless, it consists of two other 4A schools and one 6A in Southport, so the experience will be valuable.

Martinsville 4-way

When: July 20, 2022, 6 p.m.

Where: Martinsville High School

Competing teams: Martinsville, Lebanon, Monrovia, Heritage Christian

The four-way Martinsville is hosting seems valuable from all parties involved. Monrovia, the newest member of Class 3A, will get a taste of playing both up and down a level. Heritage Christian, who consistently produces great teams (8-1 last year) takes on a challenge against bigger schools. While Class 4A Martinsville and Lebanon get experience against good teams on different levels.
