Ready for Halloween? These Knoxville-area haunted attractions will deliver chills and thrills

The first signs of fall are in the air. Leaves are starting to turn orange, pumpkin spice treats are popping up on every menu in town, and Halloween decorations have already taken over the aisles at Target, Walmart and even Kroger.

Of course, the advent of the fall equinox also means pumpkin patches and fall festivals galore. And if you prefer your fun on the spooky side, there is no shortage of "haunted" attractions in the greater Knoxville area.

Here's a rundown of all the frightful and ghoulish events on tap this season for adventurous Knox County thrill-seekers, along with locations, prices and times.

FrightWorks Haunted House

FrightWorks Haunted House, located at 1904 W. Emory Road in Powell, is a giant haunted house with multiple terrifying fright zones. It claims to be one of the scariest, most original and most theatrical haunted attractions in the Southeast, and is known for high quality acting, detailed sets, elaborate special effects and engaging storytelling. FrightWorks opens Sept. 23 and tickets are $27, $29 on peak nights, $50 for a season pass.

Screamville

Screamville Haunted Attraction, located at 6835 Tindell Lane near Corryton, is described as “Knoxville’s scariest haunt that will tap into your worst fears.” Screamville is well known as an actor-based haunted experience set in a corn field that has about a dozen different areas. Most of the areas are an enclosed theme type. Screamville opens Sept. 29 and tickets are $25.

Haunted Knoxville Ghost Tours

OK, this isn't a haunted house attraction. But Haunted Knoxville Ghost Tours, which bills itself as a hands-on paranormal adventure, still makes the cut as a spooky endeavor worth checking out. The ghost tours are led by self-proclaimed paranormal historian J-Adam Smith and participants will get a “Ghost Hunting 101” crash course before investigating around the city as a team. Tours are available beginning Sept. 22, and tickets are $40 for adults, $35 for children.

The 13th Hour

The 13th Hour, at 7201 East Emory Road in Corryton, features a haunted trail with woods, a corn maze, chainsaws and other elements. It opens Sept. 30 and tickets are $22.

Dead Man's Farm Haunted House

Dead Man’s Farm Haunted House is one of the largest haunted attractions in the Knoxville area (it's in Philadelphia, just past Loudon). Visit the Bludgeon House or be chased by chainsaw-wielding clowns in the corn maze. They also have several mini escape rooms filled with clues and puzzles to solve. Dead Man's Farm opens on Sept. 29 and tickets are $30-36, depending on the date.

AMS Haunted Attractions

AMS Haunted Attractions in Maryville bills itself as a unique haunted attraction that changes its theme up every year. This season, AMS had brought back the murderous Crumpet family, the attraction's original backstory. In Uncle Crumpet's Freak Farm, the murderous patriarch of the family clan has escaped from the penitentiary and returned home. AMS Haunted Attractions opens Sept. 22 and tickets are $15.

Frightmare Manor

Roaming a little farther afield, Frightmare Manor in Morristown calls itself Tennessee's real screampark and guarantees your money back if you complete all the walk-through attractions and you beat a Nightmare Challenge. Frightmare Manor won numerous accolades including must-see haunted attraction, scariest haunted house in America, and one of America's best haunted attractions. Located on the abandoned Jeremiah Lexer plantation, Frightmare Manor spans 20 acres. Frightmare Manor opens Sept. 23 and tickets start at $27.

Red Hill Haunted Forest

The Red Hill Haunted Forest in Andersonville's Facebook page says it's a place "Where only the trees can hear you scream." The haunted forest experience opens Oct. 13 and tickets are $10.

Avondale Haunted Barn

The Avondale Haunted Barn, located in Rutledge, bills itself as "a terrifying, immersive journey into a dark world of twisted folklore and sinister secrets." Located on a historic property and based on real local legends, Avondale Haunted Barn offers a unique haunt experience. It opens Oct. 6 and tickets are $18.
