The second election of 2022 begins in Montgomery County with early voting Friday, and it will feature a new voting wrinkle and much at stake at both the state and local levels.

This State Primary and County General Election will, among other things, decide who the next Montgomery County mayor will be, as well as determine the next sheriff, judges and other county officials, while also selecting political party nominees for the state legislature.

Those state-level nominees will then move on to the Nov. 8 State General and Clarksville City Election, which is scheduled to be the third and final election of the year.

The early voting period for the Aug. 4 election runs from July 15-30, with the main voting location continuing to be the Election Commission offices in Veterans Plaza, 350 Pageant Lane.

Early voting starts Friday in Clarksville-Montgomery County and residents like Darlene Hendrix, shown in this file photo from the May primary, will be headed to the polls.

However, in an experimental move, there will also be early voting on select dates at the alternate location of Clarksville Regional Airport, 200A Outlaw Field Road.

“The airport voting location will not be open every day, and will have shortened hours until it catches on with voters,” said Elizabeth Black, local administrator of elections.

“We are excited about the addition of a second early voting site and hope it helps our voters by providing another convenient location to early vote."

Voters must be able to show a Tennessee, or federally-issued photo identification when visiting the polls.
