Ready to welcome fall? Here are some local farms with pumpkins, potatoes, apples and more

Farm markets in and around Somerset County are ready with all the fall produce and decorations that customers are looking for as the area prepares for the arrival of fall next week, on Sept. 22.

Kermit and Greta Stahl own White Oak Farms, in Somerset, which is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through the end of November. This third-generation family farm grows and sells its own red, white and Yukon Gold potatoes, as well as cabbage and other fresh vegetables.

Customers can buy their potatoes in small and large quantities, from several spuds up to and including a 50-pound bag.

“We try to cater to every household,” Greta Stahl said. “Whatever they need, we can do.”

She added that their potatoes are used to make the French fries sold at the Farmers' and Threshermen's Jubilee and at Mountain Craft Days.

Shoppers can buy apples that the Stahls bring in from their relative’s orchard, Sleek's Orchard in New Paris. Three sizes of bags are provided so customers can select and bag their own apples, or they can choose a bag that’s already filled.

Small and large pumpkins, gourds and other fall decorations are also available, as well as apple cider, maple syrup and other food products.

Credit and debit cards cannot be used, so bring cash, a check or use farmers market nutrition program vouchers for payment.

White Oak Farms is located at 550 White Oak Road, along Route 31. Turn onto White Oak Road (near Glades Pike Winery) and follow the road back to the farm market.
