Realtor.com Reveals the Most Affordable Places to Buy a Beach Home

Not all beach homes have to break the bank.

Just ask Realtor.com which recently put together a list of the most affordable beach towns. If you're looking to buy a home, these towns are tops, boasting plenty of water sports and fun. When narrowing down the list, Realtor.com "...located the country’s biggest metropolitan areas with the highest share of listings with keywords such as 'beach,' 'beachfront,' and 'ocean.'" Metropolitan areas also include surrounding areas, so even if the city proper isn't on the shore, each place on the list has at least one amazing beach town. After the initial selection process, Realtor.com data analysts scanned Yelp.com for the cities with the highest percentage of water activities like surfing and kayaking, and then ranked these metros according to their median listing price from May 2018 through April 2019.

Not surprisingly, the South dominated the list. So who claimed the #1 Spot? Jacksonville, North Carolina — which includes Topsail and Surf City — with a median listing price of $198,846. Two more Southern Cities rounded out the top 5, with Myrtle Beach in fourth with a median listing price of $245,233 and Palm Bay, Florida, along the Indian River, in fifth with a median listing price of $269,393. Other Southern cities in the top 10 are Port St. Lucie, Florida; Virginia Beach, Virginia; Salisbury, Maryland, and Morehead City, North Carolina. Read the full article here.
