Realtors host food drive

Hunger doesn't take a summer vacation.  Families with children who normally receive free or reduced-cost meals at school often turn to local food banks for assistance during the summer months.

Add this to the record-high cost of gas and increasing food costs, many struggling families turn to area food pantries for assistance.

Branch County Association of Realtors recently held its annual “Stuff the Van” food drive to help with the increased demand.

BCAR members gathered at the Coldwater Township Hall to hear Branch County Treasurer Steve Rutz explain some of the items he has been working on, including implementing online dog license applications. Coldwater Business Recruiting Consultant Tim Hart outline some of the new businesses that are scheduled to open in downtown Coldwater. The event was co-sponsored by GreenStone Farm Credit Services and Branch County Abstract & Title. Additional food from the luncheon was donated to the Quincy American Legion.

BCAR members were asked to bring non-perishable food items or cash donations. Members contributed over 1,200 pounds of food and donated $1,335 which will be delivered to food pantries in Bronson, Coldwater, Quincy and Union City.
