Rebekah Vardy has branded the WAG community “fake friends” and vowed not to be a part of it.

The former I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! contestant, who is married to Leicester City footballer Jamie Vardy, made the comments in an interview to Closer magazine given just days before Wayne Rooney’s wife Coleen accused Vardy of leaking stories about her to the media.

Vardy, 37, said: “Just because I'm Jamie's wife, doesn't define who I am. It doesn't define all the other wives and who they are. There are some people who are part of the WAG community and that's not me. It's a very fake world...

“When you're forced into friendships or forced to become friends with someone because your husbands [play together], it's weird. I don't buy into fake friends. I won't be friends with someone because their husband plays for the same team.”

Last week Rooney, 33, made the sensational revelation on social media that she had launched her own investigation to find out who was leaking stories from her personal Instagram account to The Sun newspaper, before accusing Vardy of being the culprit.

Vardy, who is pregnant with her fifth child, vehemently denied the accusations, saying: “I’m disgusted that I’m even having to deny this...

“Over the past years various people have had access to my Insta... I’m not being funny but I don’t need the money. What would I gain from selling stories on you?”

Rooney said of her sleuthing: “For a few years now someone I trusted to follow me on my personal Instagram account has been consistently informing The Sun newspaper of my private posts and stories.

“To try and prove this, I came up with an idea. I blocked everyone from viewing my Instagram stories except ONE account.

“I have saved and screenshotted all the original stories which clearly show just one person has viewed them. It’s…… Rebekah Vardy’s account.”

Rooney and Vardy were believed to have been friends as both their husbands played for England.

Other footballer’s WAGs have since come out in support of Rooney, including Danielle Lloyd, who was previously married to Billericay Town player-manager Jamie O’Hara.

Vardy hit back: “Danielle Lloyd making false claims on @thismorning that we have had ‘similar run-ins’ is utter b*****ks. She is just fuming that I ‘didn’t get Jamie recruiting’ for her like she asked me to...”
