Rebels championship trophy makes tour stop in Tupelo Tuesday

Jul. 25—Ole Miss players and coaches one by one posed for pictures with the national championship trophy minutes after securing a two-game sweep of Oklahoma in the College World Series in Omaha.

Beginning today Ole Miss fans can do the same thing.

A 13-city tour through Mississippi and parts of Tennessee got going Monday morning in Collierville. An evening stop is planned for Memphis at The Memphis Hotel on Cooper Street at 4 p.m.

Tupelo on the schedule for Day 2 as the tour swings south to Columbus in the morning where the trophy will be on display from 11-1 at Bill Russell Ford.

The evening stop will be at Hotel Tupelo from 4-6.

The tour will make two stops a day usually for two hours at a time.

Fans are encouraged to share their photos on social media using the hashtag #PartyWithTheShip.

Free commemorative national championship posters will be available at each stop.

Tupelo will be the only Northeast Mississippi stop. Other stops include Olive Branch, Greenwood, Philadelphia at the Neshoba County Fair, the Pearl River Resort, the Mississippi Aquarium in Gulfport, a Biloxi Shuckers game, Hattiesburg and Brandon.

Led by CWS MVP right-hander pitcher Dylan DeLucia, the Rebels went 5-1 in Omaha with wins against Auburn, Arkansas (twice) and Oklahoma (twice).

Tim Elko, Justin Bench, Calvin Harris, Kevin Graham and Kemp Alderman joined DeLucia on the CWS all-tournament team.

The Rebels' lone loss in all of postseason was a 3-2 decision against in the CWS, a game in which Ole Miss had the chance to drive in the winning runs in the ninth.

Ole Miss, which finished 14-16 in the SEC regular season and lost to Vanderbilt to exit the SEC Tournament in one game, went 10-1 in the postseason with a regional win at No. 6 seed Miami and a two-game super regional sweep of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.
