Recalled empanadas made without USDA inspection went to Florida stores and restaurants

A Jacksonville company that once operated an eponymous restaurant recalled 639 pounds of empanadas from Florida stores and restaurants after the USDA discovered they hadn’t been inspected at any level.

Q’Delicia recalled Q’Delicia De Empanada Beef, De Empanada Meat Gluten Free, De Empanada Chicken and De Empanada Chicken Gluten Free don’t have lot codes, best by dates or a USDA mark of inspection.

“The problem was discovered during (USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service) surveillance activities when it was determined that the empanada products did not have the USDA mark of inspection and were produced in a facility that was not inspected by USDA,” the USDA recall notice says. “The products were also distributed without a list of ingredients. As a result of not receiving inspection, FSIS is concerned these products may not be safe for human consumption.”

They were sold in 1.25-pound and 6.25-pound bags. Return them to the store or distributor for a full refund.
