Reconstruction of Kindergarten Heavily Damaged by Shelling Begins in Zhytomyr Region

The reconstruction of a kindergarten damaged in shelling in northern Ukraine’s Zhytomyr Region began on August 2, with the support of Estonia, according to officials.

Deputy Head of the Office of the President Kirill Timoshenko and Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu laid a capsule to mark the start of the reconstruction of a kindergarten in the town of Ovruch, where civilian infrastructure was destroyed by shelling in March.

President Zelensky thanked Estonia for its support in rebuilding schools and kindergartens across Ukraine. “Full reconstruction will take a lot of time and money, but the start has already taken place,” he said.

Since the start of the war on February 24 more than 2,000 educational buildings have been damaged or destroyed in Ukraine, 76 of which are in the Zhytomyr region, according to figures by the Ukrainian education ministry. Credit: Kirill Timoshenko via Storyful
