Record COVID death tolls reported in Turkey

It's become an all too familiar sight.

Streets once bustling with people, are now completely deserted.

This is Istanbul which has faced a number of record coronavirus deaths reported for that country.

Tuesday saw 190 fatalities and 30,000 new reported cases in 24 hours -- although Turkey only started reporting asympomatic cases last week.

Its government has imposed new restrictions to try and stop the spread, including a weekday curfew and full lockdowns on the weekends.

Like other countries, some sectors are exempt from the measures -- such as supply chains and production.

The government also announced on Wednesday the extension of relief benefits available to workers. It will now last until at least June.
