Record heat possible this week in southeast Michigan, National Weather Service says
Tuesday's predicted high of 97 degrees would set a new record-high temperature in Detroit, should National Weather Service forecasts hit the mark.
All told, weather in the metro Detroit region is expected to be hot and sunny in the early part of the week, before marginally cooling down toward the weekend.
"A warm up is in store early this week with highs in the mid to upper 80s today and near record highs in the mid 90s on Tuesday," NWS Detroit tweeted Monday.
The NWS has issued a hazardous weather outlook for portions of Lake Erie, Lake
Huron and Lake St. Clair through Sunday due to the high temperatures.
Showers and thunderstorms are possible before noon Monday, as the NWS lists a 50 percent chance of precipitation with a high near 87 degrees.
Tuesday's forecast calls for a high of 97 degrees and sunny skies — humidity could bump the heat index to 100 degrees, per the NWS. The record high temperature for June 21 in Detroit is 96 degrees, recorded in 1933.

Wednesday is predicted to be similarly hot and sunny, with a potential high of 94 degrees.
Temperatures could drop below the 90-degree mark Thursday, with a forecast of sunny conditions and a high near 85 degrees. Friday's forecast calls for mostly sunny conditions and a high near 88 degrees.
Saturday's forecast jumps back into the 90 degree range, with a potential high of 91 degrees. Showers could take place Saturday night into Sunday, which has a high near 88 degrees, per the NWS.
The week is hotter-than-average for the metro Detroit area, which normally sees highs around 81 degrees to 82 degrees this time of year.
