Red flags were flying on Saturday, indicating dangerous ocean conditions and a high risk of rip currents.

Rob Emahiser, captain of the Ocean Rescue Division, said: “Despite the increase in dangerous conditions, the highly populated beach day, and the record number of calls-for-service, I would call this day a success. We had no fatal drownings and quick incident response times to all calls-for-service. I am very proud of these professional ocean rescue lifeguards who worked on Saturday.”

The Ocean Rescue Division says it is important for swimmers and beachgoers to heed the flag warnings posted each day to ensure everyone’s safety, especially as hurricane season continues to create dangerous current conditions.
