Record Store Day will celebrate its 15th anniversary on Saturday, April 23.

The celebration will take place at independent brick-and-mortar record stores around the world, including several here in metro Phoenix.

Taylor Swift will serve as the Global Record Store Day Ambassador.

Record Store Day shared the news in a tweet, thanking Swift "for putting on the sash" and "helping us celebrate the culture of the independent record store around the world."

Swift issued a statement saying she's "very proud" to be this year's Global Ambassador for Record Store Day.

"The places where we go to browse and explore and discover music new and old have always been sacred to me," she said.

"Record stores are so important because they help to perpetuate and foster music-loving as a passion. They create settings for live events. They employ people who adore music thoroughly and purely."

Swift noted that those shops and people have had a rough few years and small businesses need our support more now than ever to make sure they can "stay alive, stay eccentric, and stay individual."

Watching vinyl sales grow in the past few years has "been a true joy for me," she added. "And we, the artists, have the fans to thank for this pleasant surprise. Happy Record Store Day, everyone! Stay safe out there."
