Record Store Day is Saturday. Solo Beatles for sale and more at NJ independent shops

It's solo Beatles for sale at the upcoming Record Store Day, which takes place Saturday, April 22, at an independent record store near you.

Works on vinyl from Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and John Lennon are part of the offerings this year.

The McCartney and Wings 1973 classic “Red Rose Speedway” gets a RSD release, with a half-speeded mastered edition for sale. Half-speeded refers to the technique used in the remastering process, not the speed that it's played. The McCartney classic “My Love” is the featured track.

Starr's 1981 album, ”Stop and Smell the Roses,” which features appearances from McCartney, Ronnie Wood and Stephen Stills, has six bonus tracks on vinyl.

Lennon's 2020 “Gimme Some Truth” vinyl box set, which featured prime Lennon solo material, is reimagined for Record Store Day, with white vinyl EPs containing four tracks each.

RSD celebrates independent record stores with a focus on vinyl. It falls on the third Saturday of April each year. The release of limited edition special products to mark the occasion brings music fans out.

More than 30 independent record stores in New Jersey are participating, including Randy Now's Man Cave in Hightstown, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The spot has copies of the Beatles infamous “butcher cover” for sale (not part of RSD).

The Princeton Record Exchange in Princeton has lots of titles, including 100 copies of Taylor Swift's RSD release, “Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions,” for sale. Jack's Music Shoppe in Red Bank also has the Swift record, and they're opening an hour early at 10 a.m. The line forms out front on Broad Street and it's one item per title per customer.
