Records identify suspect in east Austin car show shooting

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A Travis County arrest affidavit identified a suspect possibly involved in a shooting that happened at a car show in east Austin on Saturday, Feb. 3.

The document showed Carlos Rivera, 49, was charged with first-degree murder related to the death of 20-year-old Christian Loredo.

According to the affidavit, Austin police officers responded to a shooting hotshot call at approximately 6:25 p.m. Saturday in the 3900 block of North Interstate 35 service road, which was the same location as the Freestyle Saturday 4th Annual Car Show.

At the scene, first responders found a man, later identified as Loredo, inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds. Loredo was pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m., according to records.

The affidavit said multiple witnesses identified Rivera as the shooter. Crime Stoppers tips also provided information that led to his arrest, according to records.

A search through the APD database of Rivera showed an image that matched the descriptions provided by witnesses, as well.

As of Thursday, Rivera remained booked in the Travis County jail and held on a $1 million bond, according to jail records.
