Recount upholds winners of Groton's RTM District 6

Nov. 16—GROTON — A recount of Groton's Representative Town Meeting District 6 race brought no changes to the winners.

Democrats Bill Keep, Rachael Franco, Paul Fox and Alfred Fritzsche and Republicans Emma Gibbs and Alexander Antipas were elected to RTM's District 6.

On Nov. 7, Antipas received 439 votes and won a seat on the RTM, which was 8 more votes than Republican Thomas Frickman, who received 431 votes and was not elected.

Registrar of Voters Kristen Venditti said the voter registration office did a recount, which took place on Sunday, after the two candidates were less than 20 votes apart. A recount happens when two candidates are within 20 votes of each other, unless the losing candidate waives the right to a recount, according to the state Office of Legislative Research.

According to the results from the recount from the Registrar of Voters' office, Franco received 743 votes, Fritzsche received 726 votes, Fox received 712 votes, Keep received 708 votes, Gibbs received 454 votes and Antipas received 438. The two unsuccessful candidates, were Frickman with 432 votes and Republican Gulshan Soni with 367 votes.

Franco was reelected on Nov. 7 to the Town Council and is expected to resign from the RTM seat, Democratic Town Chairwoman Natalie Billing said last week. The RTM members from District 6 would then hold a caucus to vote for a candidate of Franco's party to fill her RTM seat.
