"We have retrieved around 35,000 large and small pieces from different historical periods. A lot of them have been undergoing artistic restoration."

Syria’s decade-long civil war hit historical artifacts in the country hard

The government has been trying to retrieve most of the pieces registered in its archives

"It is a long process during which we contact parties abroad and file lawsuits in order to get these antiquities back. A lot of antiquities in our museums were retrieved through Lebanon and Jordan, and other pieces were returned from Iraq."
