Recruiting recap: Cincinnati lands four Florida commitments, Brown headed to Oklahoma

The University of Cincinnati had a big weekend

The Bearcats had eight players commit this past weekend, including four from Florida. Cincinnati has signed a total of five Florida players in 2021 and 2022 combined.

Cornerbacks Luke Evans and Jonas Duclona verbally committed to Cincinnati, along with running back Manny Covey and offensive lineman James Jenkins.

Rickards Keyon Brown (No. 11) returns the Pine Forest kickoff during the 6-A regional quarterfinals game in Pensacola on Friday, Nov. 12, 2021.

Pitt also landed a pair of Florida athletes in edge rusher Antonio Camon and cornerback Shadarian Harrison.

Here's a breakdown of the players around the state who verbally committed to Power 5 programs over the weekend.

Rickards WR Keyon Brown commits to Oklahoma

Brown has been steadily rising up the recruiting rankings since January. He picked up offers to Oklahoma and Alabama in the past few days and quickly settled on the Sooners. Brown has everything you want in an outside receiver. He’s long (6-foot-3, 190 pounds), can take the top off a defense, is a strong route runner and catches the ball well. Brown is No. 56 on the USA Today Florida Network top 100.

Chaminade-Madonna CB Luke Evans commits to Cincinnati

After the success that Cincinnati had with Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner and Coby Bryant last fall, it’s easy to see why the Bearcats would target Evans (No. 85 top 100). He’s got elite length for a cornerback at 6-foot-2, 165 pounds and is a strong cover corner who isn’t afraid to hit. A former baseball player, Evans has only been playing football for a few years so his ceiling is very high.

Naples CB Jonas Duclona commits to Cincinnati

Duclona, No. 98 on the USA Today Florida Network top 100, is a playmaker in the secondary. He finished 2021 with 38 tackles, four interceptions and 13 passes defended. The 6-foot, 175-pound Duclona is strong in coverage, agile and physical in run support. His dedication in the weight room should help his transition to the next level.

Tampa Bay Tech EDGE Antonio Camon commits to Pitt

Camon broke out last season with 78 tackles, 28 tackles for loss, nine sacks and four fumble recoveries for a Titans team that reached the Class 7A state championship game for the first time. The 6-foot-2, 250-pound edge rusher gets into the backfield in a hurry and has a relentless motor. He doesn’t exactly have prototypical size, but he plays longer than his height.

Edgewater TE/WR Camp Magee commits to Northwestern

Magee is an athletic pass catcher who can break down a defense in many ways. The 6-foot-6, 210-pounder, primarily lined up outside or in the slot last season. Magee caught 18 passes in 2021, averaged better than 18 yards per catch and scored six touchdowns. He can stretch the middle of the field, catches the ball well and is a physical blocker.

Clay DB Jarvis Lee commits to Virginia

The 5-foot-11, 173-pound Lee, who also has official visits set up to Washington State, Memphis and Iowa State, committed during his official to Virginia. Lee, who plays both cornerback and safety for Clay, is an athletic player with good speed and the ability to make highlight-reel hits. Lee is outstanding in press coverage but also can play center field.

Bradford RB Manny Covey commits to Cincinnati

Covey has gone somewhat under the radar in the recruiting process, but he is a quick back who can be used in a variety of ways — including kick returner and flexed out as a receiver. The 6-foot, 185-pound Covey had 558 rushing yards, 399 receiving yards and scored 10 touchdowns last year. He has sudden quickness, cuts well and has good vision.

Carrollwood Day OL James Jenkins commits to Cincinnati

The 6-foot-5, 270-pound Jenkins played both tackle and guard for Carrollwood Day but projects as an interior lineman in college. He is a physical, moves well and is a strong pull blocker. One of the best things about Jenkins' game is his consistency to finish blocks and play through to the whistle.

Dillard OT Rico Jackson commits to Illinois

Jackson certainly fits the mold of the prototypical offensive tackle. The 6-foot-6, 295-pound lineman was a key reason why the Panthers averaged close to 40 points per game during the regular season in 2021. Jackson is a physical blocker with good footwork. The Crib South Florida has Jackson as one of the top 10 offensive linemen in the talent-rich area.

Lakeland CB Shadarian Harrison commits to Pitt

A long defensive back at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, Harrison is one of two Florida athletes to commit to Pitt over the weekend. Harrison is a versatile athlete — he played quarterback and had more than 1,300 all-purpose yards at Kathleen as a sophomore — who reacts well to the ball and is a willing tackler in run support.
