West Virginia University is getting another McIntyre.

Treasure Coast senior defensive lineman Corey McIntyre Jr., the son of former NFL fullback Corey McIntyre, announced his commitment to the Mountaineers on Saturday night.

McIntyre posted a simple message with his West Virginia edit: “I’M HOME. #ccommited.” He included a mountain emoji along with a yellow heart and blue heart – West Virginia’s colors.

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound McIntyre is rated a three-star recruit, the No. 135 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 179 recruit in the state on the 247Sports composite.

He held several Power 5 offers, including Washington State, Indiana, Mississippi State, NC State and Pitt. McIntyre took an official visit to Washington State earlier this month.

McIntyre earned first team-honors in 2021 when he recorded 38 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, 30 quarterback hurries and was tied for the team lead with three forced fumbles.

Corey McIntyre was a standout at South Fork, where he rushed for 2,661 yards and 35 touchdowns in three varsity seasons. He then primarily played defensive end and linebacker at West Virginia from 1998-2001, recording 171 tackles and 19 tackles for loss.

After going undrafted in the 2002 NFL Draft and spending time in NFL Europa, McIntyre made his NFL debut with the Cleveland Browns in 2005. He spent eight total seasons in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons and Buffalo Bills.

McIntyre is the second Treasure Coast player to announce his commitment on Saturday. All-state offensive lineman Alex Woods committed to SMU on Saturday afternoon.

Neither McIntyre nor Treasure Coast coach Irvin Jones were immediately available for comment.
