At Red Bank's new Italian restaurant, pizza slices are ... round?

When is a slice of pizza more than a slice of pizza?

When it comes from Sally Boy's, a new Red Bank restaurant from Artichoke Basille's Pizza co-founder Sal Basile.

Instead of traditional triangular slices, Sally Boy's serves individual 8-inch round, foldable pies ($8) called the Sally Boy's Slice.

"I have been in the restaurant business for more than two decades, and with Sally Boy's, I wanted to innovate and create something truly different when it came to to the pizza industry," said Basile, the restaurant's co-founder and executive chef. "I didn't want to offer just a sliver of pizza. I wanted to provide a new take on the classic slice and take it to the next level — something truly unique and different."

The restaurant is offering a limited menu for its first few weeks, making 12-inch and 16-inch pizzas with toppings like housemade mozzarella, crispy chicken and cherry peppers. There's also Sicilian pizza and hot sandwiches.

The full menu will have stromboli, calzones, pepperoni buns, ribeye cheesesteaks, cold subs, soups and salads — plus dessert, coffee and breakfast sandwiches.

The Red Bank restaurant, at Front and Broad streets in the former Heritage Liquors building, is the first of three Sally Boy's locations planned for New Jersey. Future restaurants include Asbury Park and Atlantic City.

"We are excited about our future Sally Boy's expansion plans," said Basile, who opened the Red Bank restaurant Jan. 16. "The Asbury Park location, along with the other proposed locations around the country, are in various phases of tentative development."

Basile and his cousin Francis Garcia are the owners of Artichoke Basille’s Pizza, which has restaurants in Hoboken, Jersey City and New Brunswick — plus more than a dozen others across the country.

The pair, who opened their first restaurant in New York City in 2008, also star in the Cooking Channel's "Pizza Cuz" and "Pizza Masters."
