Red Cross assisting residents displaced in South Brunswick mobile home fire

SOUTH BRUNSWICK – Two residents were displaced and their cat died in a fire Monday at their mobile home on Maine Street.

Firefighters responded around 6:07 p.m. to a mobile home in Monmouth Mobile Home Park on Maine Street on reports of a fire. Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy smoke and fire at the rear of the residence's back bedroom, said Kendall Park Fire Chief Chris Perez.

The occupants self-evacuated as firefighters were arriving. Other homes were also quickly evacuated, Perez said.

No residents or firefighters were injured but one pet cat was killed in the fire, Perez said.

The Kendall Park, Monmouth Junction and Kingston Fire Departments battled the blaze, Perez said.

“It took 35 firefighters approximately 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control,” Perez said. “Firefighters did an excellent job of preventing the fire from spreading to any of the nearby homes.”

The home was destroyed in the fire and the two residents were provided shelter by the American Red Cross.

South Brunswick Deputy Fire Marshal Murnieks determined the fire was not suspicious.
