Red Cross looking for holiday season blood donations, offering incentives

While the rush of the holiday season is upon many families, members of the American Red Cross are asking families to consider donating blood this season.

Red Cross is seeking donors as they face several holiday-related disruptions around Christmas, offering a few incentives for those willing to give blood this season. The need for blood has increased recently due to the lack of donations, with the organization citing seasonal travel, respiratory illnesses and hazardous weather as causes for the drop in eligible donors.

As an incentive to donate, Red Cross is offering donors a $10 Amazon gift card if they donate before Dec. 15. Those who donate between Dec. 16 and Jan. 2 will be eligible for a long-sleeved T-shirt, while supplies last.

To sign up for the blood drives, download the American Red Cross app, visit redcrossblood.org, or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Those with an Alexa Echo device can also schedule appointments through the Blood Donor Skill on the device. All blood types are needed.
