Red Cross supports four displaced after Warrenville house fire

The American Red Cross is helping four Aiken County residents after their house burned down in Warrenville.

The fire destroyed the home on Obannion Court in Warrenville and it is beyond repair, according to the Red Cross.

Two brothers and their two roommates were not home at the time of the fire and no people or pets were injured, according to Don Schoenecker, a Red Cross volunteer who responded to the fire.

Schoenecker said the Langley Fire Department determined a window air conditioner unit was the source of the fire.

"When an emergency happens, the first people who show up are the fire department and the paramedics, if needed," Schoenecker said. "As soon as everything is under control, they leave and the people are left to decide what to do. That's when Red Cross steps in and helps."

The Red Cross is providing the victims with financial assistance for immediate needs such as food, clothing, and shelter, along with referrals to much needed resources.

They were initially given $600, but more funds will likely be needed to support those impacted.

Schoenecker said Red Cross typically responds to two house fires each month. Members of the community can donate to the Red Cross to help support locals affected by house fires and other disasters.
