Red Cross workers help rescued migrants in Spain
STORY: They were some of the 39 migrants brought to port after being saved by the coast guard 6 miles off Gran Canaria island in the Atlantic Ocean.
A fishing boat in the area warned emergency services they had spotted a boat carrying sub-Saharan migrants in poor conditions.
Emergency services said coast guard officials jumped into the wooden boat to assist two semi-conscious migrants laying on the bottom of the vessel swallowing sea water.
Five were taken to a local hospital to receive treatments.
The wooden boat is believed to have set sail off Senegal nine days ago.
